RESIDENCE PERMIT

Students who entered Italy with a study visa are required within 8 days from their arrival in Italy to apply for a Residence Permit at the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters.

The documents required by the Italian Police to issue a Residence Permit are the following:
  •  Copy of passport (only the pages with personal data and
    visa)
  • € 10.33 revenue stamp + € 70,46 to pay at the Post Office
  • 4 passport-size photos
  • Documents issued by the consulate/embassy
  • The health insurance policy that covers for the entire period of stay

Who should apply for a Residence Permit?

Foreigners who stay in Italy for periods shorter than 90 days DO NOT need to apply for a Residence Permit.

Non-European citizens who are in Italy with a Study Visa for stays longer than 90 days must apply for a Residence Permit.

Remember!

Non-European citizens who are in Italy with a Study Visa for stays shorter than 90 days must submit a Declaration of Presence, but only if the entry into Italy occurs after an intermediate stop in the Schengen area.

If the entry into Italy takes place without intermediate stops, the Declaration of Presence is provided by the stamp on the passport issued by the border police.
